Update for London Region of U3As Shared Learning Projects: Shared Learning Projects (SLPs) provide an opportunity for U3A members to work in partnership with institutions such as museums, galleries, universities, libraries, archives, stately homes and institutes. We offer our time, energy and expertise in return for an opportunity to engage actively in research or some other enterprise to the mutual benefit of all involved. We also have lots of fun.

Outcomes of our SLPs usually involve a presentation of our findings. They can be very varied. This year we helped to create a public exhibition at the National Maritime Museum celebrating 100 years of WRNS. We were awarded a prize for this work. We have given a presentation to 100 + attendees at the annual Thames Discovery Foreshore Forum and we have also given quite modest and informal presentations to invited audiences at the conclusion of our other projects.
All our projects are collaborative and usually involve 6 -12 U3A members from different U3As offering their time over a period of 3 months to carry out research, or other agreed activity which will be of value to the partner organisation and of interest to the project team members. Our latest collaboration with Royal Holloway is more ambitious in scope: members are working in small groups or on their own and there is no fixed time for their research. A project with Roehampton University in 2018 will involve two separate groups working for six months with meetings at monthly intervals.
Each project is unique and tailored specifically to the needs of the partner institution and to the interests of our extensive and diverse membership.
Nearly all Shared Learning Projects are developed from personal contacts with the institution concerned, rather than 'cold calls', so if you are a volunteer, have contacts at a suitable institution, or just have a suggestion for an SLP, please contact Jo Walters straight away! See CONTACT tab for details.
