Locks Heath Membership Details

The Locks Heath U3A annual membership runs from April to March each year.

To Join Click membership

WE CURRENTLY HAVE VACANCIES

New members may apply to join any time during the year. Membership costs £25 per-person per-annum (With the option to gift aid) and is payable at registration. There is a nominal reduction for new members who are already members of another U3A.
In order to meet the demand for membership the Committee have introduced a temporary “Associate Membership” category, for people on the waiting list only, this will enable these members to attend any Interest Group, but not attend the Monthly meeting, apart from the AGM. For this level of membership the cost will be reduced to £15 for the current year 2017/18 with no reduction for the capitation fee if members already belong to another U3A. Associate Membership will be temporary.

Who can join

The U3A is open to all men and women who have ceased full time employment or are semi retired.

The driving and fundamental criteria is a desire to learn from and a willingness to share with others, in its widest meaning, from academic subjects to artistic, physical or ludic activities. As is often the case, a personal commitment is required to fully achieve one’s objectives and with U3A you will be in the company of others who have taken active steps to improve their quality of life by expanding their knowledge and experiences.

What does the fee cover

Your fee covers you for attendance at any class, including talks by guest speakers. There is nothing more to pay, unless your group leader suggests group-related expenses (always incurred with your full agreement), produces hand-outs or other materials and asks you to contribute towards the cost of producing them. There is no limit on the number of classes you are entitled to join. Please look at the Groups heading for details of the classes that are currently running. Membership also gives you access to:

  • Outings, Concerts, Social events (there will probably be associated costs with these activities).
  • Monthly talks.
  • Study Days & Summer schools.
  • On-Line courses (the National U3A group offers a variety of Online learning materials).
  • Members are insured when attending any of these groups.
  • The U3A news magazine, published twice a year, will be distributed to members on request.
  • Access to the members area of the Locks Heath U3A website.
Your responsibilities as a member of Locks Heath U3A

Please ONLY enrol in a group if you are able to attend regularly (allowing for illness, holiday, etc). There is no requirement to attend all sessions, but you are expected to come as often as you can.

As a matter of courtesy, please make every effort to contact the Group leader if you are unable to attend a group meeting.

You may be asked to confirm that you want to continue attending a group after it has met two or three times, especially if it is over-subscribed. If you decide that the group is not for you, please say so.

If you miss three consecutive sessions without advising the Group leader, you may lose your place (which may be re-assigned to another member), especially if the group is already over-subscribed.

If you decide to withdraw from a group at any time during the year, please advise the Group leader, so that your place can be re-assigned. Also advise the leader if you no longer wish to be on a waiting list.
