We are now meeting again face-to-face and our indoor meetings take place on the third Tuesday morning each month at 10.30am in the Evans room at St John's Church. We look forward to new members joining us.
At Heritage and Cultures group we like to delve into our own history as well as that of other countries we may have visited and share our experiences with other members. This has included bringing items to a meeting for information and discussion.
So, if you’re curious about the past come and join us in discovering some very interesting facts about some extraordinary people, places and events.
There’s always something going on around us, whether it’s an exhibition, a guided tour, a visit to an historic house, a talk or walk, there’s something for everyone. In the ‘good weather’ months we visit places of interest suggested by the group members, which we often open out to the wider Locks Heath u3a membership.
Members take part in short talks on on the topic of ‘The places and spaces we love’. This has included:
Matthew Boulton, Birmingham industrialist, the John Lewis partnership,The Guardian Angel of Mottisfont, Ceramics in New Zealand, Sir Arthur Henry Rostron, Old College, Aberystwyth, Romsey Signal Box, The Windows of Knaresborough, Locks Heath and the Strawberry Industry, The Huer’s Hut.
We would love to hear from you if you’d like to start a conversation about your thoughts, ideas, photos on this topic. There’s a wealth of information about listed buildings and our heritage at Historic England’s website:
