Group Leader - Mike Stringer
Who we are
The group has now grown to 18! We all like our real ale but we also like the company. All the places we go – except the brewery tour – will offer cider and wine as well, and probably gin. So don’t let the fact you don’t like real ale put you off coming along on our trips.
What we do
We visit local pubs, breweries and beer festivals. We all having a liking for real ale – or beer brewed the traditional way. Add in good conversation, good food, fresh air, opportunity to travel, and a convivial atmosphere!
How often do we meet
About once a month, the exact day depends on bus times, opening times etc. Future trips will depend where we are going and, for beer festivals, when they are being held. We like to “go with the flow” so will pick events that tickle our taste buds!
What we have been up to in 2020
Our first trip of the year took us into Chelmsford, to Lower Anchor Street, for lunch at the Orange Tree, followed by stops at the Queens Head and the Hop Shop. Our second trip saw us venture out to Hatfield Peverel, to visit the Wheatsheaf and the Cross Keys. Our latest trip took us back to Chelmsford, this time visiting The Ship, and then on to the Plough and finally the Ale House.
All our plans are now on hold due to the virus outbreak. As a result of the virus, all future events have, for the time being, been cancelled. Other activities will be arranged as and when the longer term becomes clearer. We are now arranging virtual sessions using the Zoom app. We hope to resume normal activities in the future.
