Latest News and Chair

Notes from The Chair:
Dear Member,
As of January 2022 we are holding our Monthly Meetings at the Guildhall only, and not on Zoom. We are aware that this prevents some people from enjoying them but we are very aware that the technology was failing us. We plan to investigate the problems so please bear with us.
It is necessary for members to book if they wish to attend the Guildhall as numbers are restricted, so please contact us on lichfieldu3a@gmail.com or 07510 634476 to book.
Take care, everyone.
Judith Thorpe, Chair, Lichfield u3a.

LICHFIELD ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS and u3a NATIONAL ITEMS
Receiving Emails From The u3a:
Many of you have reported that you did not receive the email which was sent to you in May with the Renewal form and other information. This is probably due to the system which Beacon uses to send emails. Could you all please set your email software up so that noreply@u3abeacon.org.uk is in your Safe Sender list? There are different ways of doing this depending on your email provider. If anyone has difficulty doing this, please get back to me on Lichfieldu3a@gmail.com or by calling the Enquiry Desk on 07510 634476 and I will try to help or find someone who can!
Judith Thorpe
Membership Secretary & Chair, Lichfield u3a.

National u3a Monthly Newsletter:
Why don’t you sign up for the National Newsletter? There are usually some interesting articles, and it’s good to see what other u3as are doing in this odd time. If you decide after all that it’s not for you, you can always unsubscribe.
Please don't miss out. If you wish, you can subscribe using this link: https://www.u3a.org.uk/email.
Once subscribed you will receive a newsletter similar to this one every month, but in greater depth about the wider u3a family

National Initiatives:
Learning Programmes and Initiatives- as we know, the u3a movement is all about learning and the associated benefits that learning brings, including wellbeing. We have designed the national learning programme and resources to appeal to u3as and individual members alike. The programme of activities and talks is intentionally diverse to appeal to as wide a range of people as possible. New initiatives are being brought in all the time, and will always go up on the learning pages of the u3a website.
There are longer-term aims to introduce an online learning hub to support learning across the movement and bring together resources on the same topic, in one place.
Here are the links to the main website learning areas:
• Homepage, with links to the Subject Advisers, resource centre, Research Network and Sources, the learning blog: https://www.u3a.org.uk/learning.
• For the national initiatives: https://www.u3a.org.uk/learning/national-programmes.
• For the online talks, webinars and learning sessions: https://www.u3a.org.uk/events/educational-events.
National Newsletter—The latest newsletter was issued recently, and it is becoming the most important method of communicating directly with members. Please encourage your members to sign up for their own direct copy through the link, either in the newsletter itself or on the u3a website.
I would also like to draw your attention to a few items in the newsletter:
Beyond Lockdown - Many members throughout the country have already supplied ideas for how to deal with interest groups and general activities during and beyond lockdown. All these ideas have been drawn together and are available to share on the u3a website under Support for u3as.
Judith Thorpe, Chair, Lichfield u3a.
