A History of Jazz Britain
A History of Jazz in Britain (new)
THL Mondays 1015-1215 fortnightly from 13th Jan
The first part of this course was run in the previous term.
Convener: Gordon Bull
The arrival of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band in London in 1919 gives us a starting point for jazz in Britain. This series of 10 talks (5 this term and 5 the following term), will trace jazz in Britain decade by decade from the 20s through to today. You will hear about local jazz men (and the occasional women) and visitors to our shores, mainly from America but also from elsewhere and the influence they had. This rich jazz history will delight you and inform you, get your toes tapping and bring back memories, so come and join us.
The talks for this term are:
|13 Jan||Jazz in the 1970s||Howard Marchant|
|27 Jan||Jazz in the 1980s||John Bain|
|10 Feb||Jazz in the 1990s||Phil Mead|
|24 Feb||Jazz in the 2000s||Mike Taylor|
|9 Mar||Jazz in the 2010s||Francis Gould-Marks|
