Wisdom Traditions East West
Wisdom Traditions - East & West (new)
HFUP Thursdays 1400-1600 weekly from 10th Oct
Convener: James Wright
A study group to examine and discuss the ideas of some of the world’s major figures through the ages.
It is proposed to use as the chosen text for study: Frederick Franck’s version of THE BOOK OF ANGELUS SILESIUS (Der Cherubinische Wandersmann), a 17th century text which in this abridged edition also contains parallel quotations from Zen Buddhist, Taoist and other sages, facilitating comparisons between East and West.
“The mystics of the East and of the West have never been separated by a chasm. Both have trusted the indelible imprint in the heart of each human being that enables it to become fully human, however great the difficulties in language or symbol system they use to express it.
The world is fast becoming a single spiritual continent, when we become less and less imprisoned within set cultural borders.”
No previous knowledge is necessary, but the course will only be of interest to those who are prepared to make a serious commitment to group study on a regular basis.
