Talk 1: Biography: Vladimir Nabokov's time in Berlin 1922-1938
Talk 2: Nabokov's Berlin short stories
Talk 3: The Weimar-era novels, 1926-1933: Mary, King Queen Knave, The Defence, The Eye, Glory, Laughter in the Dark
Talk 4: The Nazi-era novels, 1934-1938: Despair, Invitation to a Beheading, The Gift

These talks will discuss many aspects of the life and works:

  • Plot patterns, literary design and innovation
  • Contemporary Weimar/Nazi era politics and the persistent relevance of Nabokov's writings and warnings
  • The influence of science with particular stress on his knowledge of Lepidoptera and medicine
  • Why VN lived in Berlin
  • The influence of his stay on later works
