Film Appreciation Study Group
CEDN Tuesdays 1400-1630 weekly from 2nd Oct
Convener: Russell Stephings
We are a discussion group which aims to explore a spectrum of films not commonly shown in mainstream cinemas. We have recently undertaken a season of “Shakespeare on Screen” and looked at the work of Robert Altman. Previously we have tackled French New Wave, Post War Italian and Noir genres and looked at the body of work of other individual directors.
Foreign language films have dominated our attention over the last two years and will be a significant part of our future plans so it is important for participants to be able to enjoy sub-titled films. The programme is decided by the group and each member takes a turn at presenting written information and leading a discussion of an individual film. Our plans for the Autumn programme are a season of Turkish films (5 weeks) followed by five of the films of John Schlesinger.
There is a waiting list to join this course but if you are interested in being part of a similar group please contact the Convener.
