Listening to musicals
Listening to Musicals
THY Wednesdays 1400-1600 fortnightly from 9th October
Convener: Tas Smith
Using extracts from CD's of the famous, the forgotten, the frighteningly good (and bad), and even the more obscure musicals from the late 1800's up to the present day, "Listening to Musicals" aims to broaden your experience of all types of show music.
You all have heard of "The Sound of Music" but what musicals are presently being performed in London and other venues? There are musicals using puppetry (Avenue Q, Doctor Dolittle, etc), incorporating historical events (Hamilton, Les Misérables etc), featuring fairy tales (Into the Woods, Peter Pan, etc.), and of course the bizarre story lines concerning a travelling executioner and his electric chair, or the village that appears once in a hundred years (The Fields of Ambrosia, Brigadoon).
In the past 80 sessions over 300 musicals have been introduced and excerpts played.
Come and join us for an enjoyable and relaxing 2 hours, once a fortnight and expand your knowledge and appreciation of this type of theatre genre. No previous experience or knowledge necessary!!
