Public Art

Public Art

THY Mondays 1000-1200 weekly from 1st Oct (5 sessions)

Tutor: Andrew Buxton

Administrator: Sheila Murden

This course does not duplicate material in previous series but prior attendance is
not a pre-requisite.

Public art is taken as art in public places (not art galleries) such as the
street, parks, town squares and other open spaces. It ranges from
traditional bronze sculptures of public figures to abstract works in new
materials and even sound and light installations. The works may be
paid for by national or local authorities, developers or individuals. They
may be made from steel, bronze, other metals, resin, wood, stone, glass,
concrete, ceramics, or other materials.

All sessions will be fully illustrated, mostly with the tutor’s own
photographs. The sessions are informal and class discussion is
encouraged.

A visit may be arranged in conjunction with the course, probably to see the Brighton Snails.

The planned topics are:
1st October Sussex
8th October London
15th October Liverpool and Southport
22nd October Church fonts and other furnishings
29th October East Anglia
