Jazz Blues and Roots

Jazz - Blues and Roots
Zoom
Monday 1030-1200 (1st Monday of the month) all year

Conveners: John Bain and Roger Dickinson

Zoom sessions for this group started in the Autumn of 2020 covering the roots of jazz and rhythm and blues music. We began with an exploration of Afro-American (and other) roots of modern music using recordings and documentary film. Members enjoyed performances ranging from those collected in the field to some of the many recorded for the urban market in the twentieth and twenty first century.

The group developed to explore Country and Delta Blues, Texas, Piedmont and Memphis Blues, Chicago Blues, leading on to Rhythm and Blues (including British Blues). It also features Gospel Music and the African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin roots of the art that revolutionized popular music throughout the modern world.
