Membership

SUBSCRIPTION YEAR

The membership year runs from 1 September to 31 August, but you can join at any time.

Your subscription covers administrative costs and 5 issues a year of the Third Age Matters magazine issued by the national Third Age Trust.

Please be aware that although all groups have been free of charge during 2020 to 2021, from September 2021 onwards, groups other than those meeting in private houses will revert to having a small additional charge, to cover the cost of meeting room hire (or a Zoom licence).

MEMBERSHIP FEES:

Individual £10
Joint £18 (Two members who share an address)
Associate £5 (paid up member of another u3a)
Summer term only £5 (1 April to 31 August)

JOINING

1. If you have not been a member of Lewes u3a before:

- Join online using PayPal or your credit/debit card by selecting the u3a Beacon on-line joining option.

- Join offline by either:

  • downloading a copy of the Membership Form, or
  • requesting a copy of the Form by contacting the Membership Secretary by email at Membership Secretary or phoning on 01273 447567

Then send the completed Form with your cheque made out to Lewes u3a to Janet Kennedy, Lewes U3A Membership Secretary, 14 Keere Street, Lewes BN7 1TY

Once we have received your payment, you will receive a welcome letter confirming your membership number.

- If you would like to pay by Direct Debit each year, send the completed membership form to the Membership secretary (as above) or upload it and email it to the Membership secretary and set up the Direct Debit as shown below under 'Renewing your membership'.

2. If you have previously been a member but your membership has lapsed and you wish to rejoin:

3. If your Partner is already a member and you wish to join:

The Joint rate will apply but you need to contact the Membership Secretary.

RENEWING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

Your membership becomes due on 1 September each year. When you receive your renewal email:

- First check whether you have a Standing Order in place. If you do your membership will be renewed automatically and you need take no further action

- If not, you can renew online using PayPal or your credit/debit card via the Beacon Member Portal (NB You must enter your details exactly as stored in the Beacon database as shown on your renewal email.)

- If you would like to pay by Direct Debit each year, follow the appropriate link below which takes you to Go Cardless, who handles Direct Debits for us.

- Alternatively, you can renew offline by sending a cheque made out to Lewes u3a to Janet Kennedy, Lewes U3A Membership Secretary, 14 Keere Street, Lewes BN7 1TY

PAYING BY DIRECT DEBIT

- If you would like to pay by Direct Debit each year, follow the appropriate link below which takes you to Go Cardless, who handles Direct Debits for us.

You will receive an email from Go Cardless confirming your set up.

If you have a Standing Order in place, don't forget to cancel this.

Note that payment is taken on the first October each year; please leave enough time for the Direct Debit to be processed before that date, or you will have to pay for this year by a different method and your Direct Debit will take effect from the October after. If you need to delete your Direct Debit you can do this through your bank or by contacting the Membership Secretary.

COURSE FEES

For groups meeting in Member’s Homes (MH) no course fees are charged, but Conveners may ask for contributions for Refreshments and any materials provided. For all other groups, Zoom or face-to-face, to pay for the cost of rooms and Zoom licences, fees are now £2 per session, except for sports, outdoor groups and courses run by email. Method of payment for Zoom courses is being determined and Conveners will let members know the details as soon as this is decided.

UPDATING MEMBERSHIP DETAILS

If any of your personal details (email, telephone number or address) have changed recently, either inform the Membership Secretary or update them online by selecting Beacon Member Portal. You must enter your details exactly as stored in the Beacon database – please see your welcome email or a renewal email for this information..

If you wish to change your membership type e.g. from joint to individual or from associate to ordinary, please contact the Lewes u3a Membership Secretary.

If you wish to change your Gift Aid eligibility or you no longer wish to receive the Third Age Matters magazine, please inform the Membership Secretary.
