The meeting that was planned for Thursday 6th January has now been changed to Thursday 13th January. This is due to the Brick Lane outing coinciding
This group started in September 2018 and before we 'set sail' so to speak, we discussed what we would like to achieve and how to help one another gain various skills. Our aim was to donate all the things we made to charities, concentrating on those local to us.
Over the months we have knitted/crocheted a variety of garments.
We meet on the first Thursday of the month from 10am to noon, at Freda’s house at 11, Birchwood Drive, Leigh-on-Sea, SS9 3LD.
We started by making 'Twiddlemuffs' and scarves. In the summer of 2019 we moved on to making baby hats and cardigans for the premature baby unit at Southend Hospital.
I recently presented these garments to Southend Premature Baby Unit.
Our July meeting saw us still continuing with the premature baby garments with some of us confessing to not having done quite so much knitting since summer has arrived. Seems as though knitting is more of a 'Winter' thing to most of us.
At our August meeting I broached the idea of raising money for Poppy Day. The group were very keen on this and we made quite a lot of poppies, which were then sold at £1 each at our U3A meetings. We raised quite a good amount of money for this very worthwhile cause.
We have discovered many charities on line and are currently making neck warmers for Sailors missions and beanie hats for those in need. We anticipate our needles will be working like lightening over the next few months.
There is room for 1 extra car on my drive but others would need to find a space nearby.
I have been given a large quantity of wool so you will only need to supply your own knitting and/or crochet needles and there will be a small fee for refreshments.
If you are interested in joining please enter your details on the sheet supplied at our U3A meetings. I am usually at the meetings, so of course you can also speak with me there.
Many thanks Freda
