Interesting Essex
Interesting Essex is a new group that started on 17th February 2021 and restarted on 5th April 2022. The group will now meet in the Old Chancel at St Aidan's Hall on the first Tuesday of the month.
It is exactly what it seems – listening to stories of each other’s visits to places in Essex and passing on any interesting snippets of information about them.
Back in 2021, I started by talking about ‘things you may not know about the Dartford Crossing’, before moving on to the history of Tilbury Fort and then lastly our experiences of The Thameside Nature Reserve at Mucking. The meeting on Friday 19th March 2021 covered subjects including Shoebury Garrison, Jaywick, and Rayleigh. Our April meeting was well attended although of course several members had haircuts, vaccines etc etc. Discussions were about Maldon, Wat Tyler and the Peasants Revolt, and the Shoebury Booms.
At this first meeting, I hope you will have ideas on different ways of learning about various places in Essex - visiting, researching etc - and have several volunteers to share their knowledge for next month’s meeting.
