Interesting Essex is a new group that started on 17th February.
It is exactly what it seems – listening to stories of each other’s visits to places in Essex and passing on any interesting snippets of information about them. It is of course a Zoom Group as we cannot have face to face meetings in the current times, but could evolve into a group that visits some of these places in the warmer months, if restrictions are lifted, before returning to zoom in the autumn.
I started by talking about ‘things you may not know about the Dartford Crossing’, before moving on to the history of Tilbury Fort and then lastly our experiences of The Thameside Nature Reserve at Mucking. We then had an open discussion about the many varied places within the County and have several volunteers to share their knowledge for next month’s meeting.
The next meeting will be on Friday 19th March at 2pm and subjects covered will be Shoebury Garrison, Jaywick, and Rayleigh.
Our April meeting was well attended although of course several members had haircuts, vaccines etc etc. Discussions were about Maldon, Wat Tyler and the Peasants Revolt, and the Shoebury Booms.
Our next meeting is on Zoom and is at 2pm on the 21st May.
Please contact Gill by email for further information or to join this group firstname.lastname@example.org
I am currently looking at changing the day of this group's meetings, and am canceling July's meeting on the 16th - further update soon.
