Science and Technology
Convener: Richard Thompson
Topics for discussion are chosen by group members to reflect the challenges of current developments in science and technology.
The format of meetings varies. Sometimes one member gives a talk; sometimes several of us make shorter contributions. We do not restrict ourselves to scientific theory but also discuss the social and economic implications of technology. In June and July we usually go on visits instead of holding formal meetings.
The group welcomes all U3A members who are interested in exploring and discussing scientific developments and their implications.
We meet at 2.30pm, on the last Thursday of the month, usually but not always at Age UK, Clarence House, Humberstone Gate, Leicester LE1 3PJ except for the visits, usually arranged for June and sometimes also for July, and except for August and December when we do not meet.
The next meeting will be on January 30 2020 starting at 2:30 pm in Clarence House. I expect that many of us will meet beforehand in the cafeteria there.
The subject will be a collective group effort 'Science in the News'
We'll each have a chance to relate any news story with a scientific twist that has caught our attention
As usual, I shall ask for a donation of 1 pound per head for room hire.
