========== General Activity Information ==========

Is there anybody there Anyone seen Leek U3A...? Currently two walking groups explore the Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire countryside with walks that vary from 5 to 12 miles in length. You will walk in picturesque countryside, meet some friendly people and improve your general health and wellbeing.

==============================

On Thursdays there are two walks:

  • A medium walk of 5–8 miles (avg. 6 miles)
  • A long walk of 8–12 miles (avg. 10 miles)

Unless walking conditions are unsafe e.g. due to weather conditions, walks take place throughout the year; all are pre-walked and every care is taken to ensure participant safety especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All walkers should wear walking boots/shoes (trainers are generally not considered suitable for the types of terrain the groups traverse, especially during the winter months) and carry their own waterproofs, sit mat, packed lunch and drink(s) in a suitable rucksack. Normally stops are made during the walk for a morning coffee break followed by a picnic luncheon stop. During hot weather please ensure you carry adequate liquid refreshments and sun cream, protective hat etc; during cold and/or wet weather ensure that you are suitably dressed for the elements including suitable wet weather gear.

Please be aware that dogs are not permitted on walks due to limitations of the u3a third party insurance policy.

========== COVID-19 ==========

As of 19th July 2021 group numbers are no longer limited, however as average group numbers remain around 15-18 these are considered to be well within manageable COVID limits.

Where possible please bring exact fee in coins for the weekly u3a registration i.e. 50p per walker.

Car sharing: As of week commencing 26th July 2021 groups may resume meeting at Brough Park Overflow Car Park from 9:00am onwards, departing the CP at 9:30am prompt to the walk start. From this date car sharing may also recommence. It is suggested that walkers form part of a "bubble" and whenever possible travel with the same people every week.

Car sharing remains however a personal choice and participants may meet at Brough Park and travel to the designated start point in their own vehicle if they wish to do so.

Occasionally, for some walkers, it is illogical to travel to Brough Park when the start point is for example, closer to a walkers home, therefore walkers may still arrange with the walk leader to meet at the designated start point of the walk but they must notify the leader as soon as practicable if, for any reason, they cannot meet as arranged.

To ensure participant safety walk leaders will continue to ensure that current COVID-19 guidelines are adhered to throughout the activity.

Now that the hospitality sector is fully operational the post-walk social will also form an optional extension to the walking activity.

Should a participant develops symptoms of COVID-19 or tests positive following a group walk activity they should provide the NHS Track & Trace organisation with the details of the Vice Chair/Membership Secretary (Committee Members Page) who will in turn provide Track & Trace with the details of all participants who are potential contagions.
