Mah Jong 1

Leader: Martin Stroude, 01782 514268
Venue: Watson Centre, Southbank St
Time: Fridays, 10:00–1:00

Please check with the leader for vacancies.

If you find this group to be full there is a second group which plays from 4:15 to 6:15 on Thursdays at the same venue. Beginners generally prefer to join the second group first.

The ancient Chinese game of Mah Jong is played.

The game is for 4 players and is played with a set of 150 tiles roughly the size of dominoes. Players play for themselves, not with partners as in Bridge.

The idea is to have lots of fun and some gentle mental exercise in a friendly, sociable environment.

New members are given a printed set of rules and a diagram of the tiles. Instruction is given on how to get started and practice games are played.

The membership limit for the Group is 32. Beyond this visitor members can be accepted and registered. Visitor members are not guaranteed a place at a session but may come at 10:00 and they will be fitted in at a table if there are any full members absent. So far we have always fitted our visitors in.

If a full member leaves the group the next visitor member in line is invited to become a full member. However, some visitor members prefer to remain so as their attendance is occasional.
