Walking Group (Short Walks)
We meet monthly on 2nd and 4th Mondays and 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 9.20am in the Homebase Car Park, for a prompt 9.30am start. Members are welcome to walk either or both days, as and when it suits them.
We started the New Year with a Post-Christmas lunch at the Malvern Hills Hotel, preceded by a walk at nearby St Wulstan's Nature Reserve. We were a group of a record 27 people, and all was very convivial and animated. On our February walks we look for snowdrops in the hedgerows, then in March we find walks in the Golden Triangle for the wild daffodils, and late spring brings anemones and bluebells in the woods. This February we walked to Pepper Mill (see photos) near Bromsberrow Heath off the A417 going towards the motorway. We parked by the church and walked across the meadow towards the old Mill and ford. Returning along a slightly different route, we came across a garden spectacularly full of snowdrops, helebores, and aconites. Although we had to negotiate two stiles on this walk we generally try to avoid them.
Our walks are 2-2.5 miles and on fairly easy terrain. We often walk on Ledbury footpaths, and sometimes share cars to go a little further afield. Afterwards, we generally finish at a cafe.
On Thursdays we tend to stay in Ledbury and perhaps walk along the river or on the Town Trail. On Mondays we are generally a larger group, so we share cars to drive a short way into the surrounding countryside.
This increasingly popular group now has a large number registered, but new members are welcome, so do join us - we're a friendly group!
