Helping to create dementia friendly communities
Hi, I am Kathy Gill, I am a member of the Glenfield U3A and have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Society to present Dementia Friends Information sessions.
I would like to offer a session to any U3A in our network. I do not think it is suitable as the talk at a General meeting, but should be offered as a one-off session at a different time to interested members.
I have already presented sessions for the Glenfield and the Leicester U3As and their Chairpersons Gail Nunn and Sue Howard are willing to give you a recipient’s view of the event.

The idea is to give information about dementia in an upbeat, interactive and simple way to increase dementia awareness and change the way society thinks, talks and acts about dementia.
I do not charge for the talk or expenses, but you would need to provide a room with sufficient chairs for between 8 and 30 people. The presentation takes about 75 minutes. Both Glenfield and Leicester U3A also put on tea/coffee and biscuits afterwards. This is not essential, but it did give participants chance to talk to each other and ask questions.I do not use any electrical visual aids.
