St Mary Church
Kingswinford is in the borough of Dudley. It lies on the border where the historic Black Country meets the South Staffordshire countryside.
The name Kingswinford can be traced back to Roman Times and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. St Mary’s Church dates back to the 11th century and formed part of the original village, including the village green and the Old Courthouse which is now a local inn.
Holbeach House, which is now a nursing home, is where conspirators in the Gunpowder Plot, including Robert Catesby, were finally caught.
Local industries included coal mining and glass making in the nearby area of Stourbridge. Broadfield House Glass Museum in Kingswinford provides some fine examples of glassmakers’ skills.
Nowadays Kingswinford is a largely residential area with many diverse businesses, shops and trading estates providing employment.
There are a number of areas to explore for children and adults alike such as Himley Hall local parks canals and common land.
