Fun with Flowers
This group, currently 'On Hold', is aimed at encouraging creativity with flowers and foliage, colour and design. The group meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at West Charleton Hall 2-4 pm. The group is set up to have 6 sessions covering many aspects of Flower Arranging and an understanding of how to design a ‘scene’ with flowers and other plant materials.
It is a very friendly group with lots of mutual support and fun. Helen Curtis, previously a florist and lecturer for many years, has a great knowledge of handling and creating with flowers but in April 2018 has stood down, we hope temporarily.
In the six sessions the group will cover table centres, suitable for the home or a formal setting, church flowers, autumn arrangements, Ikebana, miniatures Christmas wreaths and in spring, buttonholes/corsages and simple bouquets. We will also be making flowers and displays from ribbons paper and even old music scores, mainly found in charity shops
So far the group have produced amazing results after only a few sessions, and these from ladies most of whom have not arranged flowers before (check out our pictures).
I supply some of basics including oasis, simple containers, wire, ribbon and tapes, while the group bring their own flowers often sharing to keep expenses down.
Because we need considerable space for working, we have a limit of 15 per group and at present this is full with a waiting list. The cost to attend is £12 for the 6 sessions to cover hall fees, and a small amount of money for the purchase of oasis etc.
