Singing for Pleasure
The group was formed in September 2012 and holds weekly practice meetings in West Charleton Village Hall every Friday morning between 10.00am and 12.00, with the exception of the fourth Friday when our U3A holds its monthly meeting in the Methodist Hall.
We are fortunate to have Peter Bolt as our musical director and Nicola New as our accompanist. We have about 40 members and our repertoire includes rounds, songs from shows and films, sea shanties, sacred music (including spirituals, hymns, and carols), traditional folk songs from around the British Isles and popular music. Examples include a Beatles Medley and Panis Angelicus. In 2018 the group has started the new year with a new repertoire that embraces old English songs, the classic Ave Verum Corpus [Mozart], the wonderful ‘All in the April Evening’, ‘The Happy Wanderer’ and more. See Peter's Progress Report by clicking the link (above right).
We sing to promote our group and entertain within the U3A organisation. We have sung at our U3A Christmas Lunch (and again in 2016, pictures right) and at Musical Extravaganzas at Exmouth and Torbay. The lower pictures on the right show us rehearsing a week before we performed at the U3A's 'Evening of Entertainment' on Friday 18th November 2016 at West Charleton Village Hall.
For 2018 we have decided to trial an Entertainments Evening in the summer season and have chosen to hold the event the day after midsummer’s day, i.e. Friday 22nd June. It is listed on the Events page.

If you would like to give your vocal chords and lungs some exercise (choral singing is considered to improve our lungs and slow down the brain's ageing process) please contact Tony or just come along.
West Charleton Village Hall is close to Kingsbridge and has parking space.
