The Silver Dream Bikers is a U3A group for members who ride a motorcycle or trike and are interested in social ride-outs. These inevitably end up at one or more venues where we can have a coffee, snack and a chat. There is no fixed schedule for rides which are ad hoc, mainly dependent on the weather, and initiated by any group member emailing or phoning all other members with a suggestion.

What do bikers crave ? No, not coffee and cake or bacon baps - but ROADS. Roads that have sweeping bends up and down hills and mountains in stunning scenery. Right - the Isle of Man then ? Well obviously, but if you want a change ? Snowdonia. Easy to get to, none of the problems associated with trips to the continent. Same language (well, most of the time). So Tony and Paul from the IOM u3a Silver Dream Bikers headed for Wales. It just so happens that an enterprising company has recently brought out a tourist map entitled "Snowdonia 360". As it says on the tin 360 miles of wonderful roads around Snowdonia. With this as a guide Paul, who has an app (one of many, probably including how to do a heart transplant with a Swiss army knife) set to work. One of the great features of this app is that you can set it to plan a route using only "curvy roads". And does it take its task seriously ? You bet. Sweeping roads. Roads up and down hills and mountains. Roads through ravines and forests. Single track roads without even passing places for short distances. And in between all this biking fun coffee, lunch and overnight stops in charming and scenic places like Llandudno (where we met up with members of the Bridlington Silver Dream Bikers on a biking holiday) and Barmouth, the National Slate Museum, Betwys-y-Coed and the Ponderosa Cafe, a renowned biker meeting place along the Horseshoe Pass.
