Isobel Jones Memorial Competition

2017 Competition
Although the competition is usually a biennial event, it was decided to stage the competition again during this our 5th Anniversary year. The topic this year was all about the written word, with a choice of 3 topics - "Life after 50", "Our Beautiful Isle" and "5th Anniversary Celebration". We had 8 excellent entries which gave the three judges, Bill Dale from Beach Buddies, Judith Ley from Manx Radio and Valerie Cottle, a difficult undertaking to select an overall winner. However their final decision was to select Sheila Powell as the winner. A presentation will be made to Sheila at the Network meeting on Thursday 16 November.

2016 Competition
A new venture for 2016 was the Isobel Jones Memorial Competition, held in memory of one of the U3A's founder members. There were 27 entries in a wide variety of media demonstrating the wealth of talent within the organisation. Irene Jaques (one of the judges) told members how much she had enjoyed the competition and that all three judges arrived at the same conclusion individually. Ravina Talbot presented the winner, Pat Kelly, with the trophy and signed certificate for her entry "Rosa Rugosa".
