Isle of Axholme

Due to the current situation there are no meetings taking place. This group is partially operational but not accepting new members at this time. Newsletters and updates are being sent to all members. There is a lot of useful information on the national U3A website, including how to stay in touch, advice and resources to keep members engaged during time in isolation. There are some excellent How To guides on using Zoom, Whats App and Skype as we all struggle to stay in touch and learn new skills. Signing up for the U3A newsletter is a good way of keeping up to date so why not visit to find out more.

U3A (University of the Third Age) is a movement with over 1000 groups in the UK. It provides learning opportunities for those in the third age – where you have finished full time working or raising a family and have time to develop hobbies and interests, learn new ones and make friends. There is no minimum age and no qualifications are required.
Members draw on their own experience and knowledge to teach and learn from each other.

• The Isle of Axholme is a rural area of North Lincolnshire to the west of the river Trent. This U3A group was formed in
2016 and now has 70 members. Monthly meetings are a popular event where members can socialise and listen to a
visiting speaker. We also run several special interest groups which meet weekly or monthly at various locations
throughout the isle. Annual subscription is £20 and this allows you to attend monthly meetings and as many special
interest groups as you like, although there may be a small charge for refreshments or room hire where appropriate.
All members will receive a bi-monthly newsletter by email or post. By joining a local U3A you also become part of the national network of U3A’s.
Monthly meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month 1.30pm – 3.30pm at Hirst Priory, Crowle DN17 4BU.
There is no need to book – just turn up from 1.15pm and you will be greeted by a U3A member who will show you where to
go. After a talk by the visiting speaker there will be refreshments and a chance to socialise. You will also be able
to find out more about special interest groups and other activities on offer. See EVENTS page for more information
about visiting speakers.

Special Interest Groups
We currently have 10 groups, ranging from Crafty Gardeners to Theatre visits. Groups meet weekly, monthly or
occasionally depending on the nature of the group. Each group has a leader and suggestions for new groups are always
welcome. We can usually find a member with the relevant skills and another one to lead the group. More information
can be found on the GROUPS page.

Membership forms are available at monthly meetings or can be obtained from any special interest group leader.
You can also request a form using the CONTACT page. Annual subscription is £20. You are very welcome to attend a
group meeting for free as a taster session.
