Inverness & Black Isle

Walking 2017

During 2016-2017 we enjoyed 25 walks of average distance 10.2km led by 10 different members of the group. At present, we have 35 active members and the walks are generally in the Inverness/Black Isle area with some locations further afield during the summer. Members are encouraged to become Leaders on walks of their own choice.

Sid Oakley continued as Group Leader at the start of the year but is now taking things a little easier and Alan Cruden and Steve Hogben, acting jointly, have taken over the leadership of the Group.

Both Alan and Stephen have been very active members during the last year and are fit and keen to continue leading the Group into the next season,

The Group was joined by 8 new members during 2016-2017, more-or-less maintaining the number of active members from the previous season. Some members drop by the wayside for various reasons but we hope some of them will return. Further new members are very welcome to join us.

Individual visitors are welcome for up to two visits each, after which they are required to become paid up members of the U3A Inverness and Black Isle Branch.

Since May the Long Walking Group have been on 8 walks to Drumnadrochit, the Brahan Estate, Inverfarigaig, Duntelchaig, Novar Wind Farm, Randolph’s Leap and the River Orrin. A long walk to Rothiemurcas had to be cancelled due to bad weather.
