Inverness & Black Isle

Current Affairs (Inverness)

We are a group of 8-10 who normally meet in the house of one member every fortnight for a couple of hours.

During this past (curtailed) year we covered a range of topics including Fee Paying Schools - should they have charity status?; The corrupting of the British state; Fake News and its dangers to democracy; How secure is postal voting?; The UK General Election issues; Is Labour anti-semitic?; Pandemics; Facing up to our past; and Climate Change from a sceptic.

In each case, the subject is introduced/explained by one member, then discussed by the rest of the group.

In addition, a regular feature of the programme is a session entitled "What the papers say" in which members are asked to bring up matters which have caught their attention in recent news. These shorter presentations encourage those who might balk at leading a whole meeting to make their contribution to the group.

We plan to meet monthly on Zoom and have arranged dates up to December. If anybody would like to join us could please contact me and I will put you on the list to be invited when meetings are set up.
