What is u3a?
The University of the Third Age (u3a) was founded in Paris in 1979 and now is an international organisation. The UK's u3a was founded in 1982 and has over 1,000 groups around the country.
u3a is a self help organisation of people no longer in full-time employment. It provides leisure, creative and educational opportunities in a friendly environment. u3a is not related to a specific age but to a period in one's life.
Hythe & Dibden u3a
Our inaugural meeting was held in the Hythe Parish Hall in July 2017 when more than 70 people signed up to membership. The coronavirus pandemic has inevitably had a major impact on our activities, with face to face meetings suspended. Some of our interest groups are meeting via Zoom and we remain in touch with all members via our regular newsletter.
Our monthly meetings are open to members and visitors and are held on the second Monday of each month at 1.45pm for 2.00pm start at Hythe Parish Hall, West Street, Hythe but as at November 2020, these meetings are suspended following government guidelines.
If you are interested in joining the Hythe & Dibden Group, when "normal life" resumes, you can come along to our monthly meeting as a guest and membership forms will be available at the meeting. While we remain subject to restrictions, please contact the Membership Secretary and we will be pleased to let you know how things stand.
The cost of membership is £20 for the year beginning 1st June, reduced to £17 for any other person residing at the same address.
As a member of Hythe & Dibden u3a, you are welcome to join as many of our GROUPS as you wish. If you would like to investigate setting up a new interest group, please CONTACT the Interest Group Co-ordinator.
