Our Crystal Anniversary

Huntingdon celebrated their Crystal Anniversary in 2015 by holding a stunning U3A Groups Fayre in July in the Commemoration Hall, the largest hall in Huntingdon.

Both local Mayors, of Huntingdon and of Godmanchester, attended, spending considerable time admiring the wide variety of Groups on offer to members; before leaving they cut the celebration cake and presented a bouquet of flowers to Barbara Arlow who holds the first membership number issued at the inauguration in 2000, still a member and still leads the Needlework Group..

Over 30 of our Interest Groups showcased their work by colourful displays and eye-catching posters and a "History of Huntingdon U3A" exhibition greeted people in the reception area on arrival. Additional entertainment was provided by our Line Dancing Group who gave two lively dance demonstrations on stage at 11am and 1 pm.

Huntingdon was the first U3A in the UK to form a Laughter Yoga Group and they announced plans to become Trailblazers again by starting a Walking Football Group in the Autumn.

Another event in our Anniversary year is the Network Meeting at the end of July when Huntingdon will act as host to other East Anglia U3As - the subject of the meeting being "THE MAGNA CARTA"- which of course also celebrates a big anniversary this year.

The photographs show Huntingdon Chairman,Gordon Luff, with The Mayors of Huntingdon and Godmanchester; others illustrate some of the colourful displays and wide-ranging activities showcased at the event.
