The Walking group meets on a monthly basis for a variety of local walks and trips farther afield.
In Early June we met at Battlesbridge for a circular walk. The weather was fine again for us. The walk was a bit challenging at times as part of the path was very overgrown in places but we put our lone man, Ken, in front to beat some of the undergrowth down! We were rewarded with some lovely views on an interesting walk and enjoyed a cup of tea afterwards at the tea room.
We also did a evening walk from Hullbridge taking the Blount’s Wood Road and returning via Central Avenue.
Our Bee Fiasco On Thursday 19th June! We started out on our walk at Canewdon on a lovely sunny day. All was well as we made our way down to the sea wall and continued along the surfaced path which then turned rather overgrown and then disaster struck. I walked onto a bees nest and some very angry bees flew up at us and attacked poor Margaret's head who was behind me, I had loads around my head but only got stung once on the neck, poor Margaret wasn't so lucky and got 4 stings to her head. Her collie, Kassie, didn't get stung. It is very difficult to get rid of the angry bees and had to go quite a distance to get them away from my head. It wasn't very pleasant experience especially for Margaret. Pat Thomas luckily had some antihistamine cream which helped, Margaret made her way back with another member to her car and home, the rest of us continued our walk in the opposite direction. Margaret had a couple of days with a sore head. So be aware of what might be underfoot when you are walking.
Monday 17th August meet at Hullbridge car park to car share for a walk from Purleigh.
Monday 24th August meet at 7pm in Websters Way car park (by Playing field) for an evening walk discovering Rayleigh's heritage trail.
New members welcome.
