Chelsea Physic Garden Study

The University of Westminster is working in collaboration with the Chelsea Physic Garden, the oldest botanic garden in London. This project is about exploring people's experience of sensory descriptive tours, which may include touch, scent and even taste. The aim is to understand what makes for a successful and enjoyable tour.

Your participation would involve you coming to the Garden for a sensory tour which would last for around an hour. We would then ask you to complete a questionnaire asking you for your thoughts and opinions about it. This would be done online later at home, ideally within a day or two of your tour. All participants will receive a £10 shopping voucher as a thank you for their time and in recognition of any travel expenses they may have occurred.

We are running two tours (A and B), so a choice of dates is available. We have a back-up date in case of bad weather, and we would need people to be available for both the tour date, and the back-up date. The tour would only shift to the back-up date in the case of extremely bad weather such as torrential rain or very high winds. The details are as follows:
Tour A: Friday 27th March (back-up date Monday 30th March)
or Tour B: Wednesday April 1st (back-up date Friday April 3rd)
Tour start time to be confirmed.
Location: Chelsea Physic Garden, 66 Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, SW3 4HS. Nearest tube Sloane Square. https://www.chelseaphysicgarden.co.uk/

If this sounds of interest, please contact Rachel Hutchinson on w1580109@my.westminster.ac.uk stating whether you would like to book a place on Tour A or Tour B. Please also let me know if you have any questions, and do also feel free to pass this information on to others that you think might like to take part.

ANNOUNCEMENTS MADE AT THE GENERAL MEETING

ON MONDAY 9 MARCH 2020

Contact details are in the newsletter.

Coronavirus
Until there are further significant developments we shall continue as we are. We have aimed that all members should receive the guidance from U3A, either by e-mail or in printed form. Pam appealed to members who are on e-mail but have chosen not to give the Membership secretary their e-mail address to reconsider their decision. It is by far the easiest and most efficient way to contact members, when necessary. Such information is confidential and we do not pass it on.

Theatre Visits
Ann H. is organising visits to two theatres in March. For further information go to the Theatre Visits page via the GROUPS button.

Science group
An invitation is extended to any U3A members who are interested to our 18 May meeting. Councillor Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency, has agreed to talk about the Council's Climate Emergency Action Plan. If you visit the Hounslow Council website and look at the Cabinet agenda for 21 January you will find the proposed Climate Emergency Action Plan. Please let Christine H know if you will be attending for reasons for space/seating.

Music Appreciation
There is room for one more person to join the group. Members, in turn, bring their own choice of music to enjoy with others.

Lunch group
Will meet at the Caribbean Kitchen Pot, 32 Hounslow Road, Whitton on 31 March at 12.15 pm. Entrance near the Prince Albert Pub. Sign up at the next meeting.

Walking group
The next walk will be on 20 March, from Sunbury to Upper Halliford. Meet at Hounslow bus station at 10 am.

Drone visit
A reminder for those going on the Drone visit on Thursday 19 March. Meet at 10.55 at Wecorp, Unit 11, Clock Tower Road, Clock Tower Industrial Estate, Isleworth.
