WALKING

Walks in January, February, and March 2024
The walking group had three walks in this quarter. Each walk was supported by members and the group size was around 8-10 people. We are attempting to choose gentle level walks of around 3-4 miles which best suit the members.

The first was around the Battersea Power Station Development and then Battersea Park. This was a gentle walk of around 3-3.5 miles. In the power station we had coffee in the Control Room bar, which has a wall covering of the old control panels from its power station days. It is an impressive development of shops and cafés. The weather was sunny, but the wind was chilling. Battersea Park is a compact park, and we enjoyed a stop to eat sandwiches around halfway through the walk. Travel to and from the park was by mainline trains from Hounslow to Queenstown Road.

The second walk was a stroll along the Thames from Kew Bridge to the National Archive, after taking refreshment at the Strand Cafe at the Kew side of the bridge. The National Archive is a comfortable stop, and members enjoyed the surroundings before proceeding to walk around old Kew. This was another gentle, level walk and the weather was kind to us.

The third walk was along the towpath from Richmond Bridge to Kingston, stopping at Teddington Lock. We started with refreshments at the Tide Table and then dodged the showers along the towpath. This was a walk of around 5 miles but had a convenient exit point at Teddington for those who preferred a shorter distance.
