Horsham U3A 21 years ago

“It is always a pleasure to receive the Horsham Newsletter.

Is it really 21 years since I hired the Town Hall to publicise the intention to start a local U3A in Horsham? Encouraged by Betty Salter, it was a success. After setting up a new U3A in Kennett (Marlborough & District) some years previously, it was not difficult to encourage local folk to join in Horsham.

The stalwarts of yesteryear are still going strong. The Osgerbys, The Keillers, Sheila Welch, Eileen Bonaventura, Betty Lynn, Dave Charman, followed shortly after by Thelma Fry, Esme Cloherty, Brenda Harwell and many others. What a solid foundation.

I am surviving thanks to good friends and my daughters and grandchildren. After 58 years of married bliss my wife, Beryl, passed away a little while ago. I have moved to Gloucester-shire to be nearer my family. I have a lot to be thankful for and in my 30 years’ involvement with many U3As I put Horsham U3A in the top flight.

Congratulations and continued success! What an organisation!”
