Convenor: Jean Webb
The Group usually meets on the fourth Monday in the month except when we visit an art gallery or exhibition.
Details of some of the very interesting exhibitions that we have been to recently are shown below.
In June 2016 we arranged a coach trip to visit Charleston farmhouse to see where the Boomsbury group of artists including Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant used to live. We also visited the church in Bewick to see the murals, after which we had lunch and went to Monks House for tea and cake in the garden.
Another visit was to Portsmouth Museum to see an exhibition of Edward King who was a patient in St James Hospital who painted the ruins of the war in Southsea which we thought were very cleverly done.
In January this year, we visited Winchester Discovery Centre to see Watercolours of Winchester as they appeared before the age of Photography. The lovely colours impressed us.
In February, we visited Mottisfont near Romsey to see Rex Whistler drawings, some that he did when he was only 15 and a few from memory. It was an amazing achievement and we were blown away. He also he did portraits in which you could see two faces if you turned it upside down. I attach a photograph of a few of us outside Mottisfont.
The Group is currently full however we can take more members on outings. For more information please send an email using the link at the top-right of this page.
