The Horley U3A BIRD WATCHING GROUP have just started their ninth year of birding.
We meet on the 4th Thursday of each month and make 11 trips a year (not December) to various sites in Surrey, Sussex and Kent - with an average car travel time of about an hour per trip. At present we have 10 active members with 7 to 10 per visit.
Sites visited include: Pagham Harbour, Pulborough Brooks, Bough Beech and Weir Wood Reservoirs, Seven Oaks Wildlife Centre and Thursley Common.
We leave Horley at 9.30 am and return about 3 pm having usually stopped for refreshments at visitor or garden centre cafes for a review of our visit.
Over the past years we have seen a wide variety of Winter and Summer birds and included amongst our rare sightings are such birds as: Marsh Harrier, Red Back Shrike, Hobby, Winbrill, Goosander and American White Ibis.
Travel costs are shared among members and we usually take 2 or 3 cars.
You don’t have to be an expert and all you need are a pair of binoculars and some outdoor shoes.
🔹We have room for 2 or 3 new members at present. Please contact the Group Leader for further information,
