Hope Valley

2018, 10 October

Seven riders (Roger, Andy, Rosy, Steve, John, Clive, Peter) met at Yorkshire Bridge in glorious warm sunny conditions. Unfortunately Roger had to go home because of an undercharged e-bike. Six of us headed to Ashopton and then the east side of the reservoirs which were really low. We could see a lot of the ruins of the drowned village of Derwent. Peter had to leave us to return via Fairholmes. The original plan had been to ride to Slippery Stones and return on the west side of the reservoirs via Kings Tree but this was not possible as the road was closed between Slippery Stones and Westend Bridge because of forestry operations. Four of us turned back about half a mile from Slippery Stones though Clive opted to go all the way and return. We regrouped at Fairholmes for coffee and cake. John had to leave us here. The remaining four of us rode to the “road closed” barrier at Westend Bridge before the run back to Yorkshire Bridge. 23 miles and 2950 ft of ascent. A great day out. Andy, Rosy and Steve added 10 miles by cycling between Bradwell and Yorkshire Bridge. Andy.
