Hope Valley

2018, 11 July

6 of us (Andy & Rosy, David & Jean, Sandie and John) gathered at Parsley Hay in perfect cycling weather, warm dry and sunny. One electric bike and 5 non-electric. We began along the High Peak Trail, taking it in turns to hold open each gate for the others. After five miles we turned off the trail at Minninglow station. An exhilarating ride south along quiet lanes, almost all downhill, brought us to the pretty village of Parwich. A short detour established that the pub had not yet opened and so there was to be no tea stop here.

We turned west along Dam Lane, another quite lane apart from the odd tractor and trailer, up and down although more of the former as we reclaimed some of the height lost on the descent to Parwich. This was no problem for the electric cyclist of course. We had a short rest by the historic church at Alsop-en-le-Dale before continuing. A short steep uphill brought us to the busy A515 which we had to ride along for about a third of a mile to reach Alsop station and join the Tissington Trail after 11 miles.

There remained 6.5 miles of the Trail to return to the start, the first 2 miles continuing with a significant uphill gradient before levelling off. Drinks were enjoyed at the Parsley Hay cafe, and in some case bacon baps. A most enjoyable cycle ride.
