Hope Valley U3A Family History Group
The HVU3A Family History group was originally the Bakewell U3A Family History Group but amalgamated with the Hope Valley U3A when it was realised most of its members lived in or near the Hope Valley. It is therefore far and away the oldest group in the HVU3A.
We meet at 10.30am on the fourth Thursday of each month in the Hope Sports Pavilion.
We are a group of Family History enthusiasts - some with a lot of experience in researching and recording, and others who are new to investigating their Family History. Discoveries and expertise are shared.
The programme is very informal and decided by the members. Topics are presented to the group by those who offer to do so. Some members present using PowerPoint, others prepare notes to hand out.
Our programme for the first six months of 2024 is:
January - Church/chapel connections in our families
February - a session with laptops helping members to solve mysteries or break through 'brick walls'
March - discovering a relationship through grandfathers - (a presentation by two members)
April - researching passenger lists to trace ancestors' migrations around the world
May - identifying photos
June - a trip to Kelham Island (This follows a very successful trip made last year to the workhouse and the minster at Southwell).
