|Thu Oct 25th||2.00 pm Memorial Hall, Hathersage. Unfortunately our advertised speaker,Patrick McLoughlin MP, has cancelled his commitment to HV U3A. We now have an alternative speaker, Mark Chapman and his unusual liveried Land Rover, are well known in the Hope Valley. He is a well respected woodland manager and tree-surgeon. His talk will cover the natural history, woodland conservation and management of our three local rivers.|
Mark lives in Hope with his wife, 2 daughters and 2 dogs
He is the Director of the Happy Tree Company Ltd, which has been in operation since 2005.
For the last 8 years Mark has been based in Hope and his work has concentrated on domestic tree management and a variety of landscaping projects in The Valley. Over the last 4 years he has steadily built up a number of contracts working on rivers both in The Valley and further afield; with his love of trees and fishing it has been a very natural development for both himself and the company. He has gradually built up a very good understanding of the local rivers, trees and wildlife in The Valley and currently looks after the area that stretches from Grindsbrook in Edale, the river Noe, down to Shatton and Peaks Hole Water which runs from Castleton to Hope. More recently he has added the River Derwent from Ladybower Reservoir down to Grindleford.
Most of Mark’s work on the rivers involves habitat creation, tree work and the removal of invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed.
His clients now include The Environment Agency, Peak Park, The Wild Trout Trust, the National Trust and various fishing clubs.
To further expand his knowledge of biodiversity and forestry management he is studying for a Masters Degree in Forestry at Bangor University
