Welcome to Holme Valley u3a
Registered charity - 1171722
Holme Valley u3a started in 2014 and now has about forty activity groups . We cover the villages of the Holme Valley in West Yorkshire , with most of our members and activities in and around Holmfirth .
We are part of the wider u3a movement.
Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for the sheer joy of discovery. Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.
All our members can join the monthly meetings. These are held on the second Friday of each month, at Holmfirth Methodist Church at 10.00am There is a chance to meet committee members and find out more about the groups on offer. Enjoy a cup of tea followed by an entertaining talk.Visitors are welcome to try out the monthly meetings and can join our u3a there.
We have set our annual membership fee to £16 There are reductions for those joining part way through a year, so do e-mail Holme Valley u3a to find out more. Alternatively download the Membership Application form and bring along to the monthly meeting. Please read the attached 'principles of the u3a movement' to make sure you qualify for membership.
Membership fees include a contribution to the Third Age Trust and currently covers the cost of our monthly meetings and quarterly news. We also take part in some training and activities promoted by the Yorkshire and Humber Region.
Our group activities are all run by volunteers who are not all experts. Any HVu3a member can join any group. Although some groups are currently full, there is always scope for the same activity on a different day. Do get in touch if you want to start a new group and Rose will help you. Groups are self-sufficient and some make a small charge to cover costs.
