Welcome to Holme Valley u3a
Registered charity - 1171722
This U3A started life in 2014 and already has several activity groups running with other possibilities in the pipeline. We cover the villages of the Holme Valley in West Yorkshire and have members from Meltham, Shepley and Birdsedge, with most of our members and activities in and around Holmfirth and Honley.
We are part of the wider U3A movement.
Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for the sheer joy of discovery. Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.
We held our first full AGM on 10th April 2015 when we elected our committee and adopted our constitution.
Our members can all join in monthly meetings, usually with a little light entertainment and a free cup of tea. There is a chance to meet committee members and find out more about the groups on offer. Visitors are welcome to try out the monthly meetings and can join our U3A there.
We have agreed to keep our annual membership from 1st April 2020 to £16 There are reductions for those joining part way through a year so do e-mail Holme Valley u3a to find out more. Alternatively download this 2020-21 Membership form and bring along to the monthly meeting. Please read the attached 'principles of the U3A movement' to make sure you qualify for membership.
Membership fees include a contribution to the Third Age Trust and currently covers the cost of our monthly meetings and quarterly news. We also take part in some training and activities promoted by the Yorkshire and Humber Region.
Our group activities are all run by volunteers who are not all experts. Any HVU3A member can join any group. Although some groups are currently full, there is always scope for the same activity on a different day. Do get in touch if you want to start a new group and Shirley will help you. Groups are self-sufficient and some make a small charge to cover costs.
