Pickleball

After a great response at an initial meeting to discuss setting up a U3A Pickleball Group it has been agreed that we would like to go ahead for a trial period in the New Year until Easter.

Where?
The Civic Hall, Holmfirth. It has two badminton courts, which can be used for pickleball with an adapted net.

When?
Wednesday afternoons between 1.30-2.30pm starting 10th January 2024 for 11 weeks till 27th March (No play on 24th January)

How will play be organised?
How play is organised will depend on numbers and will be agreed later – there are examples of how play is organised in other U3A sports groups.

Equipment?
The U3A has agreed to fund some start up equipment. As people play I’m sure many will buy their own paddle. Balls will need to be replaced regularly which will be purchased from funds. There will be a small charge for storage at the Hall.

Cost and payment?
Initially payment will be on a pay-as-you-play basis. The charge will be £4 per session.

Support with learning the game.
Most of us have not played pickleball before so some kind of support will be needed to help get the group started. Some people attended a taster session and the leader offered to return to run another session. We will approach him. There is also another member of U3A who is willing to offer support.
