Holme Valley

Walking (easy)

Are you looking for a walk that is more than a gentle stroll but less than a demanding hike? Then this is the group for you!

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month and set off at 10.00. We walk for about 2 hours, covering a distance of around 3-4 miles. Not surprisingly, given the nature of our beautiful local countryside, our walks will often, though not always, involve some hills and stiles. During the winter, or if the weather is particularly unkind, we will devise routes that include some road walking and avoid particularly wet or treacherous terrain.

Our walks are led by members of the group, many of whom know the area extremely well and are able to provide interesting information to those of us who are more recent arrivals. Anyone is welcome to lead a walk but they must undertake a recce of the route in advance of the planned date so that information can be circulated to the group about the meeting place and any particular challenges the route may offer, as well as highlights such as stunning views and points of interest.

Always come prepared for the conditions – a good waterproof and walking boots or stout shoes are essential and walking poles are often very helpful. The u3a provides only third party insurance for members on these walks so this does not cover us for personal accident/injury – we are all responsible for our own safety.
