Coffee & Current Affairs
The Coffee and Current Affairs Group meets on the first Monday of every month (except bank holidays) at 10.00 to 12.00 in the David Herbert Room at the George Ward Centre. You don't need to have a vast knowledge of current affairs to enjoy the discussion.
The group was founded by the current leader, Janice, in November 2017. We aim to provide a forum for attendees to share their views about whatever stories are in the news, be they national, international, or local. The stories could be serious, or funny, or quirky – as long as it catches your eye.
Janice hopes that the group will continue to grow, not only in numbers but also in terms of the topics that are discussed.
The group regularly attracts up to 25 attendees, and everyone has the chance to say as much or as little as they like. Everyone has a democratic right to their own views, so discussions are conducted in a respectful manner.
We enjoyed a fabulous day out to Arkwright's Mill in Cromford, Derbyshire in May. Being built in 1771, the mill has nothing whatsoever to do with current affairs but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying ourselves. Janice is organising a trip to Bletchley Park in October for all U3A members; see the Events page for further details.
If you want more info, U3A members will find Janice's phone number in the Annual Programme. Or just turn up to a meeting to find out more. You'll receive a very warm welcome!
