Ecclesiastical Architecture

All Hallows church

Interest Group leader: Derek West
Meeting information: We meet from 10am to 12am on the second Wednesday of each month.
Meeting venue: Ickenham.

The Group explores information about the architecture, development, construction and design features employed in ecclesiastical buildings around the country of all ages and types. The leader has been interested in ecclesiastical architecture for many years and has an extensive photograph gallery which is often used to illustrate his talks. Refreshments are available at the Monthly meetings.

Occasionally a Newsletter is produced and from time to time a member will give a short talk about a particular visit, subject or item which may be of interest to the group.

Additionally visits to ecclesiastical buildings are usually arranged for each month, these often include access to locations that are usually locked. Members make their own way by bus or train but on occasions, include a car or coach journey arranged by the group.

The group is currently full but anyone interested in the details of this group should contact Derek using the "Click to Send a Message!!" button above.

Outings Programme 2019

Next Outing - Wednesday, 20th November 2019 - Iver and Iver Heath

Sharing cars, we will visit two churches in South Bucks. One is medieval (Saxon foundations) and one is Victorian (rich Gothic Revival and stained glass).

Both have limited parking, so please park carefully in local streets. We will meet at St. Peter's in Iver Village at 10.30am. Both churches have toilets.

No Visit in December

Monday, 27th January 2020 - Bloomsbury

A morning visit to St. Giles-in-the-Fields and to St. George, Bloomsbury.
We will meet at St. Giles at 10.30am and after the visit walk across the former 'rookeries' to St. George's.
After the visit and possibly some refreshment, you could explore the British Museum nearby.

Tuesday, 25th February 2020 - St Mary, Willesden

A morning visit to St. Mary Willesden, where we will be shown round by Roger Macklen, the churchwarden. St. Mary's is the location for the medieval shrine of 'Our Lady of Willesden', desecrated at the Reformation and restored in the last century.
