Military History
Interest Group leader: Dick van Brummen
Meeting information: We meet from 10.00 to 12.00 on the 4th Monday of the month between September and April.
Meeting venue: Hillingdon.
The Military History Group was established in 2000 and operates very much as a collaborative effort, with the members providing most of the material for presentation and discussion.
The Group is ‘convened’ and coordinated by 2 of its members; David John and Dick van Brummen and they are happy to be joined by others if there is such interest, in fact they would like to encourage such interest.
Our regular attendance for each meeting is between 20-25, but we remain keen to attract more members, and the venue will comfortably accommodate this. The Group looks at conflict situations through the ages, considering; politics, economics, religious and cultural aspects in the widest sense to do with the subject looked at. None of us claim to be experts and we are looking for contributions to the discussion from everyone.
We occasionally get contributions from outside speakers on such subjects as; RAF Northolt, and the life and times of Major General Orde Wingate. We also are looking to organise some excursions in the current meeting season to; the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge and RAF Northolt and are keen to explore other possibilities for visits to relevant sites.
At our meeting venue we have presentation facilities available for members who use Powerpoint to illustrate their talks. Our meetings are informal and we expect active participation of members, we are keen to learn from each other and the varied experiences people have had.
David and Dick are very keen to increase our membership/attendance further and would like to invite anyone who is interested to contact us via the email link on this page. We do not expect our members to have first-hand experience of service in the Military or be only interested in military hardware, all we ask for are those with a general interest in the subject and willingness to listen, contribute and learn.
