London Walks

Interest Group leader: Brian Carse.
Meeting information: 6 Events a year meeting at 10:45am.
Meeting venue: An Underground Station in London.
The London Walks group organises guided walks of London led by Blue Badge Guides who are experts in the topic of the walk. We generally have 6 walks a year and a walk currently costs £8 per person which pays for the services of the expert guide. We all meet at 10:45am just outside the exit of the designated underground station where we get split into smaller groups and introduced to our guide for that walk. The walk lasts for about 2 hours and either ends at another underground station or very near to a station.
The walks are very popular so it’s important you book your place and hand over your cheque to Brian before the outing.

Wed Jul 6th | How London Got Rich - London Walk Meet at: 10.45am at Tower Hill Underground Station (exit by Tower Hill Tram coffee stand). Cost: £8 plus Booking fee. Since Dick Whittington first came to the City of London 600 years ago, people have thought of the streets of London as ‘paved with gold’. Exploring ancient City of London alleyways – finding and opening up to view the historic hotspots – we piece it together, make the connections, decipher it, discover how (and why) thanks to merchant shipping, monarchy, Methodism, Mercers (Whittington’s ‘Livery Company’ that still thrives today) and much more, including, yes, coffee houses, London came to be so much richer than Luton, Lisbon or Lima. The booking site will open 15th June at 7am and the link to the Booking Site Jul22 is here. Contact Brian Carse if you want more details. |
