Monthly Notices July

This is a list of notices from our Monthly Meeting held this month online on Monday 11th July 2022. The meeting was then followed by a talk by Tony Eaton called “The Rudolf Hess Cover Up".

Chairman's Announcements :

The chair, Ann Lines, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and saying membership had now increased to 805. Our highest number since before the pandemic.

Ann thanked the Communications Team, Rodney and Chris for leading the work to publicise our u3a through displays, attending events and working with interested stakeholders in the Borough.

Ann then made a ‘Rug Plug’ encouraging members to join our Really Useful Group (RUGS) to offer support in a variety of ways. These include helping at the monthly meeting when we resume face to face meetings, supporting events, and distributing leaflets. Pam Smith is the contact for anyone who is interested.

Next month's speaker on Monday 8th August has changed since the meeting and will now be David Allen and 'Lady Poisoners of Victorian England'

Ann then mentioned that we are hoping to be back meeting face to face at the Winston Churchill Hall for the September Monthly Meeting.

Ann thanked Tony and Eirwen for the monthly slide show and Tony for his technical expertise at the meeting

Group Notices :

Interest Groups News:
Freda, our Interest Groups Co-ordinator, trailed a new group called 'Pet Psychology'.

She went on to mention the 20th Century Living Group who had their first meeting on 11th July and hope to move to meet in a hall soon. Arrangements are in progress but they will continue to meet at the group leader’s house in the meantime. Post meeting update; they do plan to meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 2pm.

Alan Mellors gave us an update about a new Bridge group for beginners. Starting 15th August at the Ladygate Bowls Club and meeting at 10am on most Mondays. Check the groups webpage.

London Walk
Brian was unable to attend today but would have said that last weeks London Walk was a success. He is now working options for the next walk.

Sunday Concerts
Harvey again confirmed a programme of 2 concerts at the Royal Festival Hall: one on October 30th focussing on Prokofiev, Wagner and Sibelius, and the next on December 11th with music by Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. In both cases the cost will be £36. Full details on this website on the Events page.

Harvey mentioned that there are still 4 places available on the Keats House visit on the 11th August.

PR and Communications

Rodney Fox gave us an update about communications and publicity. We currently have a display in West Drayton Library.

We continue to participate in events like the Ickenham Festival, Carers Events in Uxbridge Pavilions.

Rodney and Chris Clare are currently giving presentations to stakeholder groups.

We will also be having a stand at the Classic Car event at Eastcote House and Gardens in September.

Other News
Alan Mellors then introduced our speaker Tony Heaton who gave a fascinating well researched talk, The Rudolf Hess Cover Up. Tony has spoken to our group before and we always look forward to his wide ranging subjects. At the end of the talk Alan managed a short Q&A and thanked Tony for his excellent presentation.

The meeting closed at 11:30am.
