Monthly Notices April

This is a list of notices from the Monthly Meeting at the Winston Churchill Hall on Monday 8th April 2019.

Chairman's Announcements:

The Chairman welcomed the members and also any new members attending for the first time. The Chairman also invited any new members to join Adele for a ‘get to know you’ coffee after the meeting.
The Chairman then told members that there were copies of ‘Get up and Go’ leaflet prepared by Chartered Society of Physiotherapists available for all and to collect a copy during the break, if not obtained previously.
Finally, the Chairman reminded the members present that next month is the AGM and last year’s minutes, the Agenda and the new details of proposed committee members will be in the next Newsletter for their information.

Group Notices:

Concerts (Sunday):
No announcements made.

Guitar Group:
The new Guitar group met at Christ Church Uxbridge on 3rd April for its first meeting. Future meetings will be on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 2pm. Go to their website page or contact Rodney for further details.

Historic Cycle Rides:
Tricia Creak announced that the next cycle rides will be on April 17th, commencing at 10am meeting at Uxbridge Swimming Pool, and May 1st a night time cycle ride commencing at 7.45pm at Ruislip Tube Station. For full details go the website page or contact Tricia at creakpatricia@gmail.com

London Walk:
The next London Walk will be held on Wednesday 22nd May 2019 and is entitled ‘Diamond Studded London’. Meeting at Chancery Lane Station at 10.45 am. The cost is £8 per person. Contact Brian Carse for more details and to be added to his list.

Motor Cycle Group /Club
Any member who would like to join this group please give details to Rodney during coffee break or use contact details in the Newsletter.

Opera/Chamber Concerts
No new announcements made.

The next ramble is on Thursday 25th April 2019 and will go from Hayes & Harlington Station on a circular walk alongside the Grand Union Canal, along by Lake Farm, and through Stockley Park. Meet 11.00am outside Hayes & Harlington Station (please note toilets closed for building work). Contact Alan Hooper or see the Events page of this website for more details.

Strength and Balance Class We are sorry to inform all those members who were interested in this activity that it has become impossible to proceed with this new group at this time due to being unable to find a suitable meeting day/time & location that suited enough members. We might try again at some point in the future so keep an eye on this website for future announcements.

The current session is approximately half way through. Anyone interested in a future course please contact Jean Kent via the website or using details in the Newsletter.

Jill Rhodes announced that she had 2 tickets for the theatre trip to Richmond on 17th April to see Glengarry Glen Ross. All tickets for Sonning in July were sold.

General Group News:

Interest Group of the Month
'Interest Group of the Month' is the Travel Experience group – meet them in the coffee lounge during the break. Following months are: May – Canasta & June – World Wide Wines. Any Group leaders interested for future months should contact Rodney.

Groups with Vacancies:
Improvers French has a couple of vacancies – contact Hilary Monsey to apply (details in the current Newsletter).


Ann Lines gave a short report on the recent Questionnaire, where there was a suggestion that we should run more outings, Jim Hall said that we are already planning 5, maybe 6 visits to be advertised in the next newsletter. Derek West has again joined us and will be running an Ecclesiastical Architecture visit to Cambridge.

The Visits team have just one vacancy for one visit advertised in the February newsletter, the Architecture Tour of South Bank Centre on Monday 3rd June. The visit will cost £10 and start at 10:45 at the Centre. If anybody else would like to be put onto a reserve list in case of drop outs please contact Maureen McCann (details in the last newsletter). If you are on the reserve list we do not require any forms or money at this stage. You will be contacted if a vacancy becomes available to check whether you are still available.

Other Announcements

Membership Renewal 2019 - 2020
Ann Lines announced that in excess of 850 membership applications had been completed. It would appear that some applications had gone adrift but they would be sorted this week. Apart from this the renewal procedure had gone well. The Membership Survey received 163 replies and a summary of the responses will be notified to all members via the Newsletter.
