Backgammon is one of the oldest board games for two players. Excavations in Iran have shown that the game existed there around 3000 BC. In the 16th century, Elizabethan laws and church regulations prohibited playing tables, but by the 18th century backgammon was popular among the English clergy. In the modern Middle East, backgammon is a common feature of coffee houses. Backgammon is also very popular in Greece and in Turkey.
The rules of the game are extremely simple (it’s a bit like up-market Ludo) and once you know the basics you will quickly learn to form your own style and tactics. Backgammon is both fun and sociable
