U3A National Day and the 20th Anniversary of Hillingdon U3A, now both in 2021

The decision has been taken by the U3A Trust to postpone our first national U3A Day into next year, and the newly launched date for the event is now Wednesday 2 June 2021.

Trustee Sue Stokes said, "We had hoped that we could celebrate U3A Day in 2020 but the continued uncertainty in lockdown as to whether activities could be undertaken led to a re-think.

Hillingdon U3A's PR and Communications Coordinator Rodney Fox points out that this will place the rescheduled national event right in the middle of our own U3A’s activities celebrating our 20th Anniversary.
Look out for more details about the national U3A Day and our 20th Anniversary activities in the coming months.

Our U3A continues to invest time and energy into planning creative and informative events to raise the profile of our local group. We have a long lead-time for this new date so plans can be reviewed and rearranged including venues and guests.
As you are aware, U3A Day is planned to maximise the opportunity to raise our profile nationally. Nationally and locally, we will work towards signposting media attention to Wednesday 2nd June 2021.

Our national co-ordinating body, The Third Age Trust has announced the very first national U3A Day – celebrating the learning, activity and fun that happens every day in U3As across the country – will take place on Wednesday 2nd June 2021.

Each U3A is invited to mark the day by showcasing what they do, the day will show all the learning, activities and fun that make the U3A movement so amazing.

Coordinating the day, Regional Trustee, Sue Stokes, said, “We are so excited that from now on, every year, there will be a day dedicated to learning, staying active and having fun in your Third Age - that’s people who are retired, semi-retired or no longer bringing up a family.
We hope this day will help to challenge negative perceptions of older adults and will bring together all Third Agers in the community to learn about the contribution U3A makes to the quality of life for retired people”.

Hillingdon U3A is participating, and we are planning and hope to have promotional display stands at four locations on the new date of 2nd June 2021 subject to agreement with the locations.

Uxbridge Central Library

Ickenham Village Hall

Ruislip Waitrose

Eastcote Library

More information on the times and programme of activities will be publish next year.

Looking for Volunteers!

So how can our members help on U3A Day on 2nd June 2021?

You can volunteer to man one of the four promotional stands, to enter into discussions with stand visitors, to make them aware of what the U3A is and the benefits of U3A membership.

We will have posters / displays etc at each stand to support these promotional activities.

Let Rodney or another Committee member know if you can help in the morning or afternoon session at a stand location convenient to you!

U3A UK members can discuss and share ideas on the UK dedicated closed Facebook Group but we at HU3A have our own HillingdonU3A Facebook page where you could also discuss and share ideas.
